“Those who love you are not fooled by mistakes you have made or dark images you hold about yourself. They remember your beauty when you feel ugly; your wholeness when you are broken; your innocence when you feel guilty; and your purpose when you are confused.”― Alan Cohen

What is a Bodhisattva? |
The word “bodhisattva” is a compound word formed from bodhi (spiritual awakening, enlightenment) and sattva (a being, essence, spirit). The word can then be translated as “A being set upon enlightenment,” or “One whose essence is perfect knowledge,” or “A being whose essence is enlightenment.” The term 'bodhisattva' literally means 'one who has enlightenment as his/her essence'.

Who Is Mr. Beaux? |
Have you ever met someone when you least expected it?
- Someone who became one of the greatest influences in your life? I have. He was A Stranger In Black. And the best way to describe this unexpected stranger is a Bodhisattva. |
Two decades ago, I knew nothing about Bodhisattvas. Twenty years ago, I was just trying to get by. After graduating from Louisiana State University, I was working at LSU’s veterinary teaching school. One fateful day, I happened to walk up to the front desk to receive an animal "drop off." At our vet school, we received a number of injured wildlife, but this animal was very different than the usual drop off; it as an injured and exhausted black kitten. We had “no room at the inn”, but the staff and I agreed to hydrate and treat this wee black kitten, if one of us could take him home temporarily. I immediately declined; not being a huge fan of cats at the time. Plus, I was currently searching for our M.I.A. pitbull, Daisy. – She would have thought this wee kitten was a welcome-home gift to her! I couldn’t take the chance. Taking this kitten home was not an option. Period. No way. Never. Not me. Reluctantly, I took the weak kitten from the woman’s hands, and held him begrudgingly on my left arm. Before I knew it, this cat in need of care was curled up in the crook of my arm, fast asleep. My arm ached terribly, but for some reason I didn’t want to wake him from his sweet slumber. Little did I know he was already working his way into my heart. My vet school colleagues and the woman who found the kitten continued to pressure me into taking him “for just one night!” The woman promised to pick him up promptly the next day, proclaiming, “I promise! I’ll get him tomorrow. I just have to get to work. I’m so late!” I very reluctantly agreed by telling her, “One night. Period. That’s it. If I find my dog, this cat cannot be at my apartment.” The woman left our vet school. I went back to work. We never heard from this woman again. The next day began the beginning of the rest of our lives with Beaux. ... And the and the incredible unexpected adventures that awaited us. |
