Our animal companions can be our greatest teachers in life. They can also be one of our biggest sources of frustration. However, once we invite our animal companions into our lives, whether we purchase them, adopt them, or rescue them, we have an obligation to commit to them completely. They are not temporary fixtures. We become their guardians for the rest of their life. The animals we adopt (or that often adopt us) deserve 100 percent of our love, care, and loyalty, and they deserve those things for life.
When challenges with our animal companion arise, they can be opportunities to view life from our animal companion’s perspective. The human way is not the only way. We can learn how to create new ways of approaching behavioral issues and husbandry complications by exploring all of the options available. The recipe is simple. It involves three ingredients: opening your mind and heart to new concepts, being open to compromise, and practicing patience.
With the right tools and resources, we don’t have to give up on our animal companions. Behavioral problems can be resolved. It takes patience, persistence, and a willingness to explore their behavior. Animals are learning all the time, and it’s up to us to learn how to better communicate with them. My intent is to help bridge the gap between animal companions and their humans. Don’t we owe it to them?
Communication is the key. Sharing knowledge is a gift we can give to others. By educating each other, we are able to learn from our successes and mistakes. Formal education teaches us concepts, definitions, and principles, but self-education in the form of new experiences teaches us how to adapt to the challenges and curveballs that life with our animal companions often throws us.
Animal companions of all shapes, sizes, and species are welcome here. Humans seeking knowledge are welcome here. Please share and come back often.
Blessings,
