Doggie Down TimeThere's powerful truth in the famous saying "let sleeping dogs lie". Dogs need their daily dose of beauty (health) sleep to function well and deal with the ups & downs of canine life. In fact, dogs need REM sleep!
🔸Most dogs require 17 hours of daily rest (lying down relaxing, dozing, and DEEP sleeping).
🔸Proper rest allows the dog's body to recover from the body's release of ‘stress’ hormones (adrenaline and cortisol). |
🔻The release of these hormones and other substances in response to healthy stress is normal, but levels can build up and become abnormal if the body is denied sufficient time to rest and recover.
🔻When dogs are sleep deprived, stress hormones will build up and they can have a negative impact on the dog's behavior.
🔻Dogs are more likely to be reactive and are more prone to display aggressive behaviors, because their impulse thresholds are lowered.
🔻They are more likely to overreact, and with less provocation.
